My name is Barbara Adkin BVM&S, MRVCS.
I qualified as a vet from the university of Edinburgh in 1994.
I now specialise solely in veterinary acupuncture for small animals-i.e mainly dogs and cats.
I am based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
I am a member of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists.
I am fully insured with the Veterinary Defence Society.
I use only single-use sterile needles for the acupuncture treatments.
I do home visits to treat your pet in the comfort and calm of their familiar surroundings.
PRICES.
All prices are fully inclusive, covering visit fee*, acupuncture treatment and equipment.
(*I will visit within the Cheltenham area, at my discretion)
House visit for dog or cat- £65.00
I will require payment at the time of the acupuncture treatment, payment may be made at each session, or for a block of 4 at the start.
PET INSURANCE.
Most pet insurance policies will cover acupuncture treatments, and I am happy to help with your paperwork to ensure that you are reimbursed by your insurance company as swiftly as possible once treatment has begun. You will need to check your insurance policy to see if there is an excess to pay, and if so how much that will be, as this will vary depending on your policy.
ABOUT THE ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT.
-All animals treated will need a referral from their own veterinary surgeon, which I can arrange.
-Animals must be clean and dry.
-The treatment time will vary depending on the condition being treated, but the whole session usually lasts approximately half an hour- the time the pet has needles in place can vary from only a short time to up to 20 minutes. You will be able to stay with your pet for the whole time.
-The number of treatments is very variable, depending on the condition being treated and the animal's response to the treatment. Usually we begin with one treatment a week for 4 -6 weeks, then taper off the frequency or finish the treatments completely.

What to do now....
The first thing to do is to contact me - either by phone (07952 902622) , email ([email protected]) , or fill in the form on the 'contact' page leaving me your name and contact number. Then we can have a discussion on the phone to find out if acupuncture may be suitable for your pet and your pet's condition as diagnosed by your vet.
If you wish to go ahead with the treatment, I will get in touch with your vet for their referral, and then contact you to arrange the first acupuncture treatment for your pet.
